    Frequently Asked Questions

Here to help you every step of the way.

Why is my engine recoil starter rope hard to pull?

If your engine recoil starter rope is hard to pull, it may be due to “pressure lock” of the pump. Pressure lock is caused by:

    • Pulling the recoil and building up pressure within the pump.
    • Running the engine, building up pressure in the pump, and forgetting to squeeze the spray gun trigger after shutting off the engine.

This pressure can prevent the engine from moving and the engine recoil starter rope from being pulled, acting like the engine is locked up.

If the recoil cannot be easily pulled, possibly due to pressure lock, then squeeze the spray gun trigger to relieve built up pressure on the pump and engine. Failure to release the pressure built up in the high-pressure hose may lead to the engine continuing to behave as if it is seized or locked up. Once you have relieved the pressure, try to start the engine again.

No, only use the cold-water hose bib or spigot on your house with the pressure washer. Cold water helps to cool the pump. Hot water can damage a cold-water pressure washer pump.

When a machine claims 4,000 PSI, how do you know it’s real? CETA independently tests and certifies performance — the ratings on every SIMPSON Pro Series machine are verified by a third party, not marketing.

    • Independent lab testing confirms rated PSI and GPM
    • CETA certification is not universal — many competitors self-rate
    • Gives contractors confidence when specifying for bids
    • Ensures homeowners are not misled by inflated peak claims
    • Full CETA certification across the Pro Series lineup

The SIMPSON Superior Pro Grade Warranty goes beyond the industry standard 3-year warranty. With our 5-year engine, 5-year pump, and 10-year frame warranty, you get long-term protection designed to give you peace of mind, added confidence, and protection you can count on.

Limited warranty. See product manual for details.
