Troubleshooting: Low or No Pressure

July 27, 2022

Check air flow and the filter screen. Do you have air in the system or a blocked filter screen? Turn the engine or electric motor off. Next turn off your supply hose water source / house bib, remove your garden hose from the pressure washer and carefully inspect the inlet screen, remove any debris you may find, then reinstall. Now, turn on your hose spigot and allow the water to flow from the garden hose until you see nothing but a solid stream of water flowing from the hose. Turn off the hose spigot and reconnect the hose to the pressure washer. Turn the water back on and then squeeze the trigger to remove any trapped air. Lastly turn the motor back on or start the engine, and see if the pressure is where it should be.

Check your water supply. You need at least 5 gallons per minute (GPM) at a pressure of 20 pounds per square inch (PSI). Most municipal systems will supply this with no problem, but if you have a well, you may want to have your flow and pressure checked by a professional. If your system cannot supply the water as stated above, your pressure washer may be starved for water causing the pressure to be low.

Check the nozzles. Do you have a high-pressure nozzle on the wand? If you do, clean the nozzle or try another high-pressure nozzle to make sure you do not have a blocked nozzle.
